China

Kingfishers work on China coincided with Chinese New Year and provided plenty of opportunities for children to make comparisons between China and the UK, including similarities and differences in culture.

The topic launched with a landmark treasure hunt as children found pictures of famous landmarks and tried to match them up with their name and corresponding information. The children made Chinese dragons and lanterns in preparation for a Chinese New Year festival which they performed for the rest of the school.  They also made salt dough Chinese dragons and willow pattern plates, and experienced a range of traditional Chinese food. Their key texts were: ‘Chinese Fables’ and ‘The Willow Pattern Story’.
