Everyone's an Artist at Steep
Art and Design
We provide children with opportunities to explore colour, shape, form, texture and design. Teaching approaches make use of a wide range of media, including painting, drawing, printing, textiles and three–dimensional work. We enable children to develop an aesthetic awareness of their own and other’s works of art from a range of cultures.
Children learn about famous and local artists work from a range of cultures and historical eras. They visit galleries and work with practising artists, and have opportunities to see their own art work on display within school and at local exhibitions
Art Planning and Progression
Artsmark Gold
In December 2018 Steep C of E VC Primary School was awarded Artsmark Gold. The panel who reviewed the school’s case study said it:
‘…showcased an impressive array of arts opportunities for learners, strong representation of student voice …and at its core a pedagogical philosophy which draws on work around creativity from Claxton, Lucas and Spencer’.
They were impressed with the range of initiatives and interventions which sit alongside teacher's everyday commitment to creative teaching and learning such as ‘STEAM@Steep’, ‘The BIG DRAW’ and ‘Artshop’ . The school has been encouraged to consider ways in which we might share our commitment and expertise with other schools who may be inspired by our approach.
