Dungeons and Dragons

The Woodpeckers' launched their Dungeons and Dragons topic with a dragon hunt linked to their key text: The Dragon Machine.  They found clues including scorch marks, dragon skin, footprints and a dragon’s nest full of eggs, which led them to the conclusion that a dragon had landed in the school grounds.  They then watched a video (which must have been captured on CCTV) of the dragon landing in their classroom!

During their topic the children investigated the history of castles, and practised using all their new castle related historical vocabulary.  In Science, as well as work on rocks and soils they foudn out  about the forces used in catapults and about the important role of gravity in working a  drawbridge and portcullis.  They also mapped castles in the UK and looking at ‘castle art’.
