Woodpeckers Curriculum

Dungeons and Dragons

The Woodpeckers topic this term is Dungeons and Dragons.  The children launched their topic with a dragon hunt linked to their key text: The Dragon Machine.  They found clues including scorch marks, dragon skin, footprints and a dragon’s nest full of eggs, which led them to the conclusion that a dragon had landed in the school grounds.  They then watched a video (which must have been captured on CCTV) of the dragon landing in their classroom!

During their topic the children will be investigating the history of castles, and using all of the associated historical vocabulary.  In Science, as well as work on rocks and soils they will also be finding out about the forces used in catapults and about the important role of

gravity in working a  drawbridge and portcullis.  They will also be mapping castles in the UK and looking at ‘castle art’.
